If it’s April then it’s time for cricket and it looks like the whole world has come home to the biggest and best cricket party around. There are many things to like about the ongoing cricket carnival and chief among them is going to watch a live match in a floodlit stadium. I for one believe it’s a good thing that these wonderful facilities are being used so often and we the people can get to watch our modern day gladiators in these massive coliseums of emotion.
Some years back the FSK stadium in Delhi used to a biggish crowd maybe once in two years for a test match and I used to meet the same 200 people at Delhi’s regular season appearances. I think it’s because of this so called “eyesore” of a tournament that we saw 30 thousand people at the Kotla for this year’s 3 day fixture against the errant schoolboy team from down under. That serene performance from the patient priest who seemed so at home while batting on quicksand will remain with us all for a long time.
Think about it, these extremely fit warriors, dressed in the pads, gloves, box and meshed helmet facing fireballs from burly giants and canny wizards and us …the hoi polloi, screaming and chanting for more…. we have been like this for ages, voyeurs to fighters in a game of skill…dreams of glory while playing with cherries.
The fact is the cricket fever is all pervasive; it sinks into all that we do. I find myself demanding …why it won’t give me fabulous discounts on air ticket. Well it does…..Goibibo’s Travel Premier League is an incredibly simple idea that gives you what you want, i.e. fabulous discounts on air ticket. The more matches your favourite team wins, the better the discounts on your online bookings of air tickets.By Rajesh Baruah
